Description

A pair of Opaline Ivory mandarin ducks swims through bands of water beneath lotus leaves, flowers and seed pods, all modeled in layered relief across the scalloped body. In Chinese decorative art, paired mandarin ducks are associated with marital happiness, fidelity and enduring companionship. Set within the lotus pond, they turn the composition into a wish for a harmonious union. Contrasting Liuli glazes distinguish water, foliage, rock and flower, allowing the vessel to read as a small ceramic landscape. It is presented on an included wooden display stand.
